Colour Blind
Gouache
Featuring the poem Colour Blind by Duke Al. The painting and poem were created during the first covid-19 lockdown in 2020, to reflect the burden on mental health. Sometimes we lose 'colour' in our lives, which can be replaced by darker shades in our minds. I wanted to depict how the pandemic or similar events can impact mental health, how the mind can feel dark and clouded with anxiety, fear of the future. Duke Al inspired by the artwork wrote a poem on mental health which is hand painted into the brain; the words of the poem looped like the folds of the brain. This painting is featured in Nature Medicine 'Art in a pandemic: a digital gallery'. More about the painting can be seen here: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41591-021-00009-5
